Isn’t it strange, that there are two fluteplayers in the music workshop?

D: Its great because our instruments are not alike. We can play solos seperatelly, sometimes in different tunes.

R: But it was difficult to tune them together, because Daniel has a wooden flute, which has a low voice, I have a metallic one. And I also have a special, Romanian type of flute, unfortunately I do not know it’s name, it sounds a bit like a bagpipe. These sound completely diffrent, the wooden one has beautiful sound, mine is a lot harder, sharper.

 Why did you choose a reggae song?

D: First of all, because it is great, and everybody in the musicworkshop likes ska, reggae. I just do not know for what reason. It is also important that this kind of music makes everyone feel happy. Right know I just can not name an other style like this.

R: I think because it has a catchy rhythim, and it is full of melodies. When you hear songs in clubs or in the radio, you will remember to the ska song later on. And for us, it is hard to play anything else with flute.

How do you like your own song? How much did you participants worked with it?

D: Only the chords were ready. We all of had to decorate it out with solos and harmonies. We like it very much because there are so many parts in it, because it is instrumental, so that is the way it should be.

Did you think about writing lyrics?

R: Well, to be honest first I was against rewriting Bob Marley’s original lyrics, so I really did not want to deal with this one as well. But the No woman No cry turned out really good as a result of brainstorming. But I wasnt excited about the instrumetal song.

D: „My flute is my only carriage.” This is actually my favourite part.

Do you play according to shapes?

R: I used to but now I rather improvise. I could learn it again.

D: My case is completely the other way round. I used to play from shapes, but for a while I quit doing it. Now I konw I had to return to it.

What kind of music are you listening to usually?

D: German punk, like Kartofelsalat. It may sounds weird, that I am listening to this type of music, and I am plyaing this instrument, but that is the way I am. In Germany every little kid has to play one instrument, flute is one you can choose, but many of them don’t play after the school.

R: I actually picked flute simple because I felt that guitar and keyboard are not my instruments, but I wanted to play music.

How do you like your workshopleaders?

R: They know what they are doing, and this is very imprtant. They are still doing a good job, even though they do not speak english. But we do not need any, language music does the talking.
